Windows 7 RC released
Those of you who’ve been using the Windows 7 beta released in January on a low-powered laptop or netbook have experienced first hand how efficiently it uses system resources compared to Vista, and how stripped back and utterly old-school Windows XP feels in comparison.
Those of you who missed out on the beta now have a second opportunity to use the upcoming Microsoft operating system for free.
The beta will be available until at least the end of July, and Microsoft will not limit the number of downloads or product keys (serial numbers). It will be fully functional until March 1, 2010.
If you are using the beta from earlier this year, be aware that it will start shutting down once every two hours as of July 1, which should be plenty of time to download the 2.5GB RC, back up your data, reformat and install.
Grab the RC from www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx. All you need is a Windows Live ID, which can be obtained for free if you don’t have one already.
Note: At the time of publishing, all pages on Microsoft’s site regarding Windows 7 are returning an error, undoubtedly due to massive demand for the RC download. Don’t fret – you’ve got until at least the end of July to grab it.
