iPhone 3G vs BlackBerry Bold vs HTC Dream
I’ve been testing like crazy, and hope to bring you the most complete round-up review of the three hottest smartphones on the market right now – the iPhone 3G, BlackBerry Bold and the HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1).
Before I start writing it up, is there anything you want to know about how these devices compare that you can’t find elsewhere? Let us know in the comments!

I currently own the Apple iPhone 3G and previously owned the BB Bold. It’s entirely clear that the iPhone is a consumer device, while the Bold aims for the consumer, at the end of the day it is still a business device. The iPhone has total control in terms of web browsing, endless applications, entertainment (music/games/movies). The Bold has a wonderful keypad, a beautiful high clarity screen, of course the battery is much better than the iPhone. The iPhone is a revolutionary device there have been so many clones and ripoffs and still, nothing can hold a candle to it! The deal breaker for me that caused me to return the Bold for the iPhone was simply, the Appstore.
Having had device failures….and being a backcountry person, I’d like some “rugged test” category.
My blackberry died every rainy day. I said to myself “what if I fell off the trail, landed in water.? No rescue call today…”
So I’d like some” G.I. Friendy” on the possibles.
Sincerely

@waltinseattle: I completely understand that durability is a key feature for adventurous (and/or clumsy) types – I fit both of those categories.
The thing is, I highly doubt that RIM/Optus would appreciate me sending them back a broken Bold/Dream with a note along the lines of “Oh, your handset failed the rugged test”
I will cover the build quality of each device and point readers in the direction of some popular rugged/waterproof cases.
One of these devices in particular I would definitely not want to drop – but I’ll save that for the review.
Network, Download, GPS, Streaming-Video/Audio-LAN/3G will be interesting to test on real platforms, let me know w. ready…
Network coverage is important. Personally, I’m looking forward to replacing my BlackBerry with the Palm Pre – but only if I can get decent bandwidth in rural areas. I don’t want to be stuck with a device that only works to its full potential when I’m in a major city. When you’re looking at these devices, I’m also interested in knowing if push-email arrives in a timely fashion. I want to tether my phone – but it’s looking like none of the cell providers are willing to do that. Does the GPS work inside a car or building? Does the wifi work on WPA2?
Most useful apps for the iPhone?
When will apple stop holding out on the landscape keyboard???????? What is with those guys??
Blackberry wins on one other count- any mp3 as ringtone.
Apple Kicks blackberry’s asp on build quality.
- Typing/keypad, copy-paste
- GPS (with voice guidance?) practicality for use in a car
- Hands-free operation (via bluetooth?) also for car use
- Earphone (standard/propriety)
- Charging through USB port
- Battery life
- Multiple e-mail accounts
- data speed
Looking forward to your review. Thanks!
Reviews of wizz-bang features at the time of purchase only go so far. I had an i-mate Jas-Jam, made by HTC, which went in for service of flaws twice, without the problem getting fixed. I switched brands. Reviews that deal with medium- and long-term issues are important – down-time for a faulty phone is just not appreciated. In other words, why should I trust any other HTC products?
