Palm has released webOS 1.1

The battle between Palm and Apple over iTunes syncing continues with Palm’s release of webOS 1.1. The update restores the Palm Pre’s ability to sync with Apple’s ubiquitous media software that Apple knocked out with its iTunes 8.2.1 update. The move could signal an escalation in hostilities between the two companies and puts the ball squarely back in Apple’s court.

The update also includes a number of business-oriented updates including inactivity timeout, remote wipe, and improved Exchange support and certificate handling. There are also fixes to the calendar that sets reminder intervals to 15 minutes for timed events and one day for all-day events, while fixes to the clock gives improved support for time zones.

The update also includes various general system, camera, contacts, messaging and web browser improvements as well as the addition of Sprint’s NFL application that lets users watch NFL games on the Pre.

Pre users will receive the 87MB webOS 1.1 update via an over-the-air update that can be accessed via the Updates icon. Your move Apple.
