TXT’N'WALK app shouldn’t remain an April 1 joke

TXT'N'WALK

TXT'N'WALK

On April 1, Pocket Lint posted a joke about a mobile app for S60, iPhone, BlackBerry and Android phones that used the on-board camera to show a picture-in-picture-style video feed of what was going on in front of you, so you could happily text away without bumping into anything or accidentally walking out onto the road and into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

While the crew at Ubergizmo posted about the fake app without any indication as to whether they were in on the joke or not, John Mahoney from Gizmodo has gone on the record to say he thinks the app should be made real immediately – and we agree wholeheartedly.

Tragically, people have died due to walking out onto the road while text messaging, oblivious to the oncoming traffic. While TEXT’N'WALK would be no replacement for common sense and complete awareness of one’s surroundings, it could just save someone’s life – and that can’t be a bad thing.

    Hello:
I disagree with the need to make this available. As stated it is no substitute for common sense. If we continue on this train of thoughts we should have newspapers with eitherc a periscope or holes in them so as not to walk into anything while reading. AND people who text while on the move will see this as an opportunity to finally text while drivng !
Common sense should prevail and maybe it is natures way of evolution to eleminte thus people who do not have it.

    Andre:

Natures way? lets continue your thought in the other direction shall we? Then no other modern amenities either? Casts for broken bones? training wheels for children? How about vaccines? No rear view mirrors either? ever consider it is nature’s way to make this silly app? If common sense prevailed perhaps you wouldn’t have made such a silly comment.
