The folks at Laptop Mag recently got their hands on the HP Mini 311, which features the nVidia Ion LE chipset, and put it through some benchmarks of varying usefulness. It achieved a score of 1,917 on PCMark05 and 1,386 on 3DMark06 – both these figures unsurprisingly higher than the average scores of GPU-less netbooks.
Of course, you’ll have to activate and that means you’re in a contract. Sprint has great service though, so why not? There’s at least one reason some may not immediately realize.

The Multibook G22 has the looks of a netbook, and offers features that most netbooks don’t. It seems to be a true mingling of useful laptop features in a netbook size.
Fujitsu is now taking orders for the new M2010 Mini-Notebook. $450 gets you Bluetooth connectivity, three USB 2.0 ports, the Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz processor, and a built-in webcam.

Since the launch of the first lines of netbooks, I’ve had some concerns that they weren’t truly beneficial for mobile workers. The low battery life, lack of optical drives on some models, limited resources for programs, and their small form factor are not really conducive to mobile productivity.

Lenovo looks set to bring the first ION-based netbook to market with the unveiling of the IdeaPad S12. The ION platform puts a 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU and a GeForce 9400M GPU together to create a machine capable of GPU-accelerated Blu-ray/1080p video playback, and playing modern 3D games such as Call of Duty 4.
Back in April we brought news of AT&T trialling subsidized netbooks with two-year data plans in Atlanta and Philadelphia. Now AT&T has announced the trials were a success, and will be available online and in over 2,200 stores across the U.S. this summer.

The HP Mini 1151NR, which takes a relatively standard set of netbook internals (1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM and 80GB storage) and adds Qualcomm’s Gobi 3G modem for EV-DO Rev. A and HSPA 3G access, is now available from Verizon for $199.99 on a two-year contract.
