Skype mobile coming to Verizon

Skype mobile coming to Verizon

Today at CTIA 2010, Verizon and Skype announced the imminent release of Skype mobile for Android and BlackBerry handsets on Verizon’s network. Come Thursday, you’ll be able to enter your phone number at verizonwireless.com/skypemobile to have a download link sent to your handset via text message. Android users will also be able to download the app from the Android Market.

Skype mobile will use Verizon’s voice network for Skype-to-Skype calls, and Verizon tells us that means “top-notch” quality. You’ll get unlimited Skype-to-Skype voice calls, that don’t use up your monthly minute allowance or your monthly data allowance.

You’ll also get unlimited Skype-to-Skype instant messages, the ability to manage your contacts in the app, and the ability to use SkypeOut for international calls at Skype’s dirt-cheap rates.
