Skype for iPhone
It’s been months since the announcement at CES, but the waiting game is nearly over – Skype for iPhone is set for release at the iPhone App Store on Tuesday.
There is, however, a few caveats when compared to the full desktop application. You can’t SMS, initiate a conference call, transfer files, or retrieve your Skype voicemail – and calls will only work when your iPhone is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi.
Kurt Thywissen, principal engineer of Skype for iPhone, claims that competitors like Fring are using workarounds that transcode audio, resulting in call quality inferior to that of the official app.
