Samsung predicts sturdy smartphone growth
Samsung Mobile Display, a joint venture between Samsung Electronics and Samsung SDI, is predicting the global smartphone market will grow from 170 million devices in 2009 to 500 million devices in 2012, taking the market share from 14 percent to 29 percent.
Samsung Mobile Display also predicts that touchscreens will feature in 50 percent of portable devices such as mobile phones and digital cameras by 2013, and OLED screens will feature in 50 percent of mobile phones within five years, leading the way to thinner devices with better battery life at the expense of the life span of the display itself.
