RIM announces BlackBerry push API

BlackBerry leaks three device codenames

RIM bringing push to consumer BlackBerry apps

While push notifications have been available to BlackBerry developers in the enterprise space, RIM today announced the availability of the BlackBerry push API, allowing developers to push content to consumer applications running on BlackBerry devices.

The move comes after an Apple event in March revealed that push notifications would be a part of iPhone OS 3.0, which will be released in Q3 this year.
