Panasonic's iPod Merge
Panasonic has told “Runway Girl” Mary Kirby that its iPod Merge airline service will be coming to flights on selected carriers this fall, possibly in September. This service will provide iPod media display and interaction that has not yet been seen on an airline.
Details about the service are few, but it will allow users to display their video and pictures on a large screen. It will connect to the iPod (and surely iPhone as well) through its dock connector. This could mean that they are using new iPhone/iPod APIs which allow developers to interact with software through the dock connector. According to Kirby there are six confirmed airlines that will use iPod Merge (Singapore, United, Avianica, Air New Zealand, and Swiss) as well as six unknown carriers.
