Opera Mobile Browser
Opera Mobile 9.7 beta is the newest mobile browser for Windows Mobile phone users. Reviews have already begun being posted and highlight some of the new features and those that still need improvements.
The feature which gets the most attention and which seems to have received the most criticism is Opera Turbo. The rest of the browser doesn’t seem to be changed much from the previous version.
This feature is highlighted first in this review at cnet points out that the browser does have an option for making the most of weak connections. Opera Turbo does make it faster to view web pages on your Windows mobile device but image quality is sacrificed for this speed as detailed by reviewer Jessica Dolcourt.
Over at the Opera web site, Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software is quoted saying that “Opera’s focus is on improving our browser so that your EDGE network feels like you’re surfing 3G style or better,”
Over at Mashable, points out that Opera Turbo is a preview feature and lacks some functionality.
The Turbo feature must be turned on in the Advanced section of the browser settings and is considered a preview feature at this point.
Both reviews at cnet and Mashable feel that there really isn’t a compelling reason to worry about upgrading your current version of Opera at this time and you won’t be missing out on anything new.
It makes me think of other upgrades for Windows devices that you are better off waiting before upgrading – something new will be coming along or improvements will be made and make the software truly beneficial and of course work properly and as advertised.
