Motorola Morrison details leaked

Let’s face it, Android phones have been few and far between for a while, but the big manufacturers are starting to get on board and produce their own Android devices.  Motorola has been reportedly working for a while on a couple of Android powered phones to bring to the market this fall.  The Sholes is headed to Verizon, and the Morrison will be on T-Mobile.  Android and Me is reporting a “trusted tipster” has leaked the specs of the Morrison to them and it looks to be a solid phone.

The device will be added to T-Mobile’s already continuously growing lineup of Android phones with the G1 and the myTouch 3G.  Here’s a quick rundown of the important specs.

  • 528 MHz Qualcomm CPU
  • 256 MB RAM
  • 512 MB Flash ROM w/ SDHC memory card slot supporting up to 32 GB
  • 320×480 HVGA display
  • 3 axis accelerometer with 4 way screen rotation
  • Magnetometer
  • Proximity Sensor
  • Ambient Light sensor
  • GSM 850/900/1800/1900 & W-CDMA 900/(1700 or 1900)/2100
  • 802.11 b/g WiFi
  • Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR w/ A2DP, AVRCP, GAP, HFP 1.5, HSP, SDAP, SPP
  • Micro USB 2.0
  • 5 Megapixel camera w/ video
  • GPS
  • Exchange ActiveSync

From a purely hardware standpoint the Morrison looks like it will be able to compete with the best phones available.  What still remains to be seen is what the Android OS will look like.  Since it is open source, Motorola is building their own custom version of the software.  One crucial addition that has been made to the Android OS is the inclusion of Exchange ActiveSync, which is a must for most business users.

As we’ve seen with the iPhone OS, the software on a device has become key in its success.  The customizations Motorola builds into it’s Android phones will determine if they can compete in the smartphone market.
