Lenovo IdeaPad S-series netbook with built-in 3G arrives in the FCC database

The 3G IdeaPad S

You can already add 3G to an IdeaPad S10 with a USB or ExpressCard modem, but hey – that’s just one more vital piece of your road warrior kit to lose, break, or pay through the nose for. Not for long though, as Engadget has spotted a new IdeaPad S series netbook in the FCC database, complete with a built-in 3G modem.

Engadget notes that the 3G card is compatible with AT&T’s network, and suggests the netbook is an IdeaPad S9 destined for AT&T’s subsidized netbook trials.

However, last week Liliputing got word of an update to the IdeaPad S series – an updated 10-inch model and a new 12-inch model, both packing built-in 3G. The announcement came from DeviceVM, makers of the Splashtop quick-start operating system used by Lenovo, but apparently the announcement was delayed and Liliputing pulled the press release.

More on this as it happens.
