iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2 “unofficially” jailbroken

iPhone 3.0 beta jailbreak

iPhone 3.0 beta jailbreak

A Russian hacker named Vortex, who is in no way involved with iPhone jailbreaking pioneers Dev Team, has released a jailbreak for iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2 – but we suggest you don’t go ahead with it for now if you intend on using yellowsn0w, Dev Team’s software-based carrier unlock, with OS 3.0.

Dev Team has explained why they hadn’t publically released their OS 3.0 jailbreak, despite having it done within 48 hours of the release:

It’s silly to play cat&mouse with Apple during a beta period, when relatively few people are willing to actually use the beta software in their everyday lives. There are ways Apple can tighten the screws, and we’d rather not burn methods just for a beta release.

…and explained why you shouldn’t use QuickPwn:

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT THE UNOFFICIAL QUICKPWN RELEASES IS THAT IF YOU USE THEM, YOU WILL KILL YELLOWSN0W, POSSIBLY FOREVER. That’s because QuickPwn, by its very nature, requires you to already have accepted Apple’s official IPSW, along with its baseband update. If you do that, you will (possibly forever) lose your ability to software-unlock your iPhone 3G.

So there you have it.

And for the thousands of people who couldn’t care less about yellowsnow, who LIKE upgrading their baseband and, ya know, IMPROVING service, but have grown dependent on the thousands of features accessible through Cydia….where does that leave us?
Relying on some guy in Russia, who is hacking your hacks?

Thanks a TON Dev Team. :-/
