Install Windows 7 RC without a DVD drive
For those of you wondering how to go about installing the new Windows 7 RC on a netbook, or any machine without a DVD drive, we’ve got the goods.
Back in February, I wrote an article for Gizmag titled How to install Windows 7 on an IdeaPad S10 (or other netbook) without a DVD drive, which got you up and running with the beta that was released in January.
The good news is that the guide is perfectly capable of getting you running with the new RC as well – just substitute the old “7000.0.081212-1400_client_en-us_Ultimate-GB1CULFRE_EN_DVD” with the new “7100.0.090421-1700_x86fre_client_en-us_retail_ultimate-grc1culfrer_en_dvd”.
It’s written with a Windows XP starting point in mind, but if you’re running Vista or the Windows 7 beta it’s even easier – you can skip the business with the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool and just format the drive to NTFS using the built-in formatting tool by right clicking on the flash drive and hitting “Format”.
Good luck!
