Sprint & Best Buy offer 99 cent netbook
Of course, you’ll have to activate and that means you’re in a contract. Sprint has great service though, so why not? There’s at least one reason some may not immediately realize.
This is a decent offer if you only use the netbook, but what if you have another device? Since the connection is embedded, there’s no way to connect this as you would with a mobile broadband card. For new or light users, this is a great idea, but for most of us, paying a monthly $60 fee for Internet access that only works on one device can’t be justified.
This is a smart business move by Sprint that other carriers will probably follow. It’s not such a great deal for the consumer, but who didn’t know that?
From a business perspective, Sprint is fully subsidizing the hardware price in order to gain a two-year service agreement. At $60 a month, the 3G service costs the consumer $1,440, for a rough net gain to Sprint of around $1,050 over two years for a single customer.
