Hitomebo app uses GPS to break the ice with a crush (if they’re into you)

Hitomebo

Got a confidence problem with members of the opposite sex and a cell phone? You’re not alone. A Japanese app called Hitomebo launched last Friday, aiming to help shy people break the ice.

The name Hitomebo comes from the saying Hitomebore, meaning “falling in love at first sight”. When you “fall in love” with someone (I think that’s lust, but I digress), you fire up Hitomebo on your GPS-enabled phone and tell it so. If a member of the opposite sex in the vicinity has done the same, the system will notify you and give you a way to get in contact. If a member of the same sex has done the same, you’ll be notified of a rival.

An interesting concept, for sure, but I’m curious as to how the application would deal with a train carriage full of shy, horny people. How exactly would it tell who was into who? Or would it not bother to try, and just flash “Multiball!” on your screen and play a looping slap bass riff through your speaker?

Do any of our Japanese readers have any experience with the app? Perhaps a success story? Let us know!
