Turn on your Peapod with your iPhone

You might’ve already known that the upcoming GEM Peapod electric vehicle features an iPod/iPhone dock with hands-free calling for the iPhone. AutoblogGreen spoke to Peter Arnell, Peapod Mobility’s chief innovation officer, at the New York Auto Show last week and heard of an iPhone/iPod touch application developed exclusively for the Peapod that will show how much you’re saving by not paying for fuel, and turn your engine on when you place your phone in the dock.

There’s also mention of the app providing some form of navigation assistance, but we’re not sure if this includes turn-by-turn voice navigation or merely a simple Google Maps integration.
