Email 'N Walk iPhone App

If you’re a bipedal multitasker, this could quickly become your favorite iPhone app. While some have yet to grasp the “mobile” concept of today’s phones and insist on finishing conversations while standing in or near the doorway (as you wait… and wait for them), the text-centric mobile evolution has already replaced “walking and talking” with “messaging and walking.”

Of course, walking makes it quite difficult to watch your path if you’re trying to write and send text or email. Phase2 Media is here to save the day with their new Email ‘N Walk iPhone application that enables you to easily type a message and watch the path in front of you simultaneously. The app uses the camera on your iPhone to give you a live-view of what’s happening right in front of you while you’re composting a message by overlaying the messaging client over iPhone’s camera viewfinder.

This app was actually born out of a joke this past April Fool’s Day.

While the crew at Ubergizmo posted about the fake app without any indication as to whether they were in on the joke or not, John Mahoney from Gizmodo has gone on the record to say he thinks the app should be made real immediately – and we agree wholeheartedly.

Needless to say, please don’t text or email behind the wheel of a car. If it’s not illegal in your area yet, it’s still dangerous. But if you’re walking and find the need to read or send a message, you can easily avoid stepping on that sunbathing snake or into a pothole. Go ahead and send your message. Just look at the camera. Email ‘N Walk for iPhone is available for $0.99 from the App Store.
