Dell Mobile Site

Dell Mobile Site

Dell’s quiet roll out of a mobile-optimized version of their website was announced via the company’s blog on Friday in an effort to make products and services offered easier for customers to purchase. With recent sales numbers for the PC maker showing a 63% drop in profits, the introduction of a mobile site is a smart move.

Visiting Dell’s main web site from a mobile phone detects the device and opens the mobile site, where most of Dell products and services are available for purchase by credit card. The company promises the site will render properly on most popular mobile devices and notes that many competitors do not offer mobile-optimized versions of their websites.

A quick glance at the URL of the mobile site reveals the Usablenet platform actually powers the site. Dell’s IdeaStorm is also looking for mobile application ideas to simplify navigation and streamline the process of making a purchase through the mobile site.

Do you have some ideas about what functionality would be useful to you on our mobile site?

If so, share them here or on IdeaStorm under the Broadband & Mobility category. We’re looking for any smartphone and mobile app ideas that simplify mobile Dell.com site navigation, the process of browsing product content, streamline the purchase process and even more advanced smartphone functions like location-aware functionality.

    My question is… Why?

Certainly the objective here is to create incremental sales. Adding the convenience of a mobile site opens the door to sales that may not have otherwise occurred.
