Cyanogen
The developer of CyanogenMod, an “unofficial” build of Android based on Cupcake that incorporates parts of Donut and a number of contributions from the xda-developers.com community, has received a cease and desist from Google.
That might seem a little odd given the open-source nature of Android, however Google has taken offense to the fact that their closed-source applications, including Gmail and Maps, are being distributed with the mod.
We sincerely hope that Google finds a way to solve this one without simply crippling the CyanogenMod, such as offering downloads of the closed-source apps to users of unofficial Android builds.
