WiMax is all well and good, but what about all those devices you have without built-in WiMax modems? Clearwire’s Clear Spot personal hotspot is one solution, which connects to Clearwire’s WiMax network and provides Wi-Fi connectivity to up to eight devices, provided they support 802.11b/g.

You’ll need a Clear USB modem ($49) which is plugged in to the Clear Spot to instantly create a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. Clear data plans start at $30/month, with a $10/day option available for casual users.

The Clear Spot is manufactured by Cradlepoint, and will set you back $139 when it is released later this month in CLEAR Stores, and online at
