It was just over five months ago that we brought news of Apple’s App Store reaching its billionth download after just nine months – and we’ve just received word that that figure has hit a staggering two billion downloads.
In other news, there’s more than 50 million iPhone and iPod touch devices in the wild. If there’s anyone on the planet with decent programming chops that hasn’t already started experimenting with Objective-C, Xcode and the iPhone SDK, I’d be pretty surprised if they didn’t start after hearing this news.

50 Million! That’s a lot. But lets be honest the Iphone was and still is an overnight success. The phone appealed to people because of it’s image (only fashion concious and tech savvy people buy an Iphone) and all the Apps that were developped for this Star phone are so great that almost anybody that bought an Iphone felt in love with it. I think Apple will sel even more of their Star phones if they would give up their “exclusive dealers” way of selling.
Two billion sounds a lot but if you take in to account that most applications have been updated several times and included in the download figure, then the numbers are very different!
