After announcing their plans to enter the smartphone market at Mobile World Congress, Acer has announced that their first handsets will be shipping “this month and next month”. The four phones, dubbed the Tempo series, will be based on Windows Mobile. Acer has confirmed that at least one Android-based handset is in the works, which is rumored for release this fall.
The move comes after Acer acquired Taiwanese handset manufacturer E-Ten last year. Acer aims to be one of the top five smartphone makers by 2014.
